Cardiac Health is in Our Control - Cardiovascular Disease Can Be Prevented, Halted, & Even Reversed

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lemoyne_Bloom]Lemoyne Bloom

Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in America today. It can be prevented, cured, and even reversed! Hense, my writing this article on Cardiac Health.

In January 2008, I had a heart attack and had five stents put in my chest. Realizing that although this repaired the blockage in my arteries, I began extensive research into potential solutions to restore my cardiac health.

I uncovered a massive amount of research which has been done on natural alternatives. The pharmaceutical companies spend millions to convince us that only commonly prescribed drugs will fix you. I have found out otherwise and am trying to get the word out that there are alternatives.

Many are aware of the untimely passing of Tim Russert 58, NBC newsman who died June 13, 2008 of a massive heart attack. His doctor had diagnosed him with coronary artery disease for which he had been prescribed medication and exercise. He also performed well on a stress test in April. For about one third of all with coronary disease, sudden death is the first symptom.

There is very little one can do (except preventative action) to predict sudden cardiac arrest which takes more than 310,000 Americans every year. That is more than breast cancer, lung cancer, stroke and AIDS. Russert's death is a wake-up call to thousands of men and women who never thought they might be courting a coronary.

Forty-two percent of all deaths in the United States are directly related to circulatory disorders.

Some figures are related below:

Heart Disease kills 361,276 men & 371,133 women

Cancer including lung kills 280,465 men and 253,845 women

Strokes kill 60,225 men & 93,081 women

Diabetes + Atherosclerosis make these the number one killer today!

The circulatory system is vulnerable based on many factors including the genetic factor, which is how I became interested (inherited heart issues from my parents). I haven't smoked, was not eating high fat foods, I have exercised regularly and do not live a stressful life. Yet, I found myself in the hospital with chest pains and a heart attack.

There are four fantastic resource books that have been written concerning arginine and nitric oxide. They answered all of my questions about these powerful substances. These books document how the natural amino acid ingredient arginine, and nitric oxide which is created by the endothelium (smooth muscles lining the inside of blood vessels) from arginine are an answer to most folk's prayers. They are proven by these books to be a natural preventative and cure for heart attack and stroke.

It was very fortunate I was in the hospital when I had my heart attack, for 30% of heart attacks the very first warning is instant death. The U. S. healthcare system is dominated by expensive technologies to treat patients after they suffer a heart attack. Very little is done to prevent heart attacks.

Arginine is the body's key source of nitrogen. After reviewing the evidence, my position is that I believe along with the authors of the four resource books, that arginine is essential for many individuals, especially as they age. While young, our cardiovascular and other bodily systems have not yet suffered the damage that often comes with aging. It is in our latter years, when the cardiovascular system's need for ADNO becomes greater than ever, because our health has been compromised by years of heart un-healthy habits or genetics.

If you already suffer from atherosclerosis, hypertension, and the cavalcade of other chronic disorders -- I believe based on my research, that supplementing your body with 5 grams per day of liquid arginine is critical to your long-term health. L-arginine is reasonably priced and available in many health food stores in capsule, powder and tablet form. In order to get the adequate supplementation to your diet it is easier and less expensive to use the liquid which has a 90% assimilation in a quality liquid form.

I have found and use a high quality liquid of L-arginine and am very pleased with the results. It is truly an amazing medical discovery. http://www.cardiachealth4u.com

What is Vitamin B? What Are the Benefits of Vitamin B?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ronald_Godlewski]Ronald Godlewsk

There is no single B vitamin, but rather there are eight water soluble vitamins, each of which plays an important role in the cell metabolism process, making up what is known as the B-Complex vitamin. While the B vitamins were once believed to be just a single vitamin, research has showed that these are eight chemically distinct vitamins that can coexist in the same foods, but that can also be found separately in other whole food sources as well. While these eight vitamins can be combined in a supplement known as the vitamin B complex, individual B vitamin supplements are also available. Each of the Vitamin B vitamins is differentiated by a number, and also has its own unique name.

Vitamin B1 - Vitamin B1 is also referred to as Thiamine, and is a water soluble vitamin that is essential for healthy neural function, and metabolism of carbohydrates. The result of a thiamin deficiency in most cases is Beriberi, which is a disease of the nerves and the heart. Less severe deficiencies may result in weight loss, confusion, irritability and malaise. Vitamin B1 can be found in small dosages in many whole food sources including peas, asparagus, cauliflower, yeast, brown rice, oranges, pork, eggs and potatoes.

Vitamin B2 - Vitamin B2 is also referred to as Riboflavin, and is an easily absorbed vitamin that plays a key rule in maintaining overall health. Vitamin B2 is required for many cellular processes within the body including the metabolism of energy, fats, carbohydrates, proteins and ketone bodies. Popular sources for Vitamin B2 include milk, cheese, liver, legumes, yeast, almonds, rock lobsters and soybeans. Riboflavin is easily destroyed by exposure to light, making it difficult to obtain this vitamin through whole food sources.

Vitamin B3 - Vitamin B3 is also referred to as Niacin, and is an organic compound that is a derivative of pyridine and plays an essential role in the metabolic process of living cells. Vitamin B3 or Niacin is especially important in relation to the detoxification of xenochemicals, along with the repair of DNA and the production of steroid hormones within the adrenal gland. Vitamin B3 can be found in numerous whole food sources, including animal products like fish, salmon, milk and eggs, fruits and vegetables such as carrots, dates, avocados and broccoli, seeds, nuts and whole grain products and some fungi, including brewer's yeast and mushrooms.

Vitamin B5 - Vitamin B5 is also referred to as Pantothenic Acid, and is a water soluble vitamin that is an essential nutrient to sustain life. Vitamin B5 is critical when it comes to the synthesis and metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Vitamin B5 can be found in a wide variety of different whole food sources, which is where it derives its name which is from the Greek word "pantothen" for "from everywhere". Pantothenic Acid, or Vitamin B5 can be found in high amounts in whole grain cereals, eggs, meat, royal jelly and legumes.

Vitamin B6 - Vitamin B6 is also referred to as Pyridoxine, although there are two other compounds that are commonly referred to as Vitamin B6; Pyridoxal and Pyridoxamine. Vitamin B6 is best known for its ability to balance the sodium and potassium in the body, and it also promotes the production of red blood cells. The most popular source for Pyridoxine is dragon fruit, which comes from South East Asia.

Vitamin B7 - Vitamin B7 is also referred to as Vitamin H or Biotin, and is a water soluble vitamin that plays a role in the metabolism of leucine and fatty acids, and in the process of gluconeogenesis. Biotin can be found in a myriad of different whole food sources, though normally in low concentrations. Royal jelly and brewer's yeast are the greatest sources for Vitamin B7, though this vitamin is also found in oilseed meals, dried yeasts, alfalfa, milk, liver, egg and some vegetables as well.

Vitamin B9 - Vitamin B9 is also referred to as Vitamin M, Vitamin B-c or Folic Acid, and is most known as sourcing from green leafy vegetables which is where this vitamin gets its name. Folic acid, or Folate, can be found in green leafy vegetables like spinach, lettuces and turnip greens, and also in dried beans, fortified cereals, sunflower seeds, peas, and some other fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin B12 - Vitamin B12 is also referred to as Cobalamin, and is vital in the normal functioning of the nervous system and the brain, and also the normal formation of the blood in the body. Vitamin B-12 plays a part in the metabolism of the cells in the body, including their regulation and synthesis, as well as the synthesis and energy production of fatty acids as well. The natural, whole food source of Vitamin B-12 both for humans and animals is other animal products, including meat, eggs and milk products.

The Unknown Anti-Cancer Mineral

By Joni Bell

One of the most effective naturally occurring weapons against cancer is, like most healthy things, something many of us are not getting enough of. The mineral selenium has been shown in multiple studies to be an effective tool in warding off various types of cancer, including breast, esophageal, stomach, prostate, liver and bladder cancers. Not many people get the recommended dose of 200 micrograms a day. Most Americans only get between 60 and 100 micrograms of selenium daily from dietary sources

Selenium was first used in conventional medicine as a treatment for dandruff, but our understanding of the mineral has come a long way since then. Today, research shows selenium, especially when used in conjunction with vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene, works to block chemical reactions that create free radicals in the body (which can damage DNA and cause degenerative change in cells, leading to cancer).

Selenium also helps stop damaged DNA molecules from reproducing. In other words, selenium acts to prevent tumors from developing. In addition to preventing the onset of the disease, selenium has also been shown to aid in slowing cancer's progression in patients that already have it. The use of selenium during chemotherapy in combination with vitamin E and vitamin A reduces the toxicity of chemotherapy drugs. The mineral also helps enhance the effectiveness of chemo, radiation, and hyperthermia while minimizing damage to the patient's normal cells.

The mineral not only help protect against all types of cancer, it has a particularly powerful impact on prostate, colorectal and lung cancers.

If our bodies have too high an intake of selenium it can actually be toxic to our system, but the majority of us are not getting enough of this essential mineral. Since this is the case, how can we get a good balance so as not to overdo but make sure we are getting enough to help our bodies fight cancer? There are some good dietary sources of selenium such as mushrooms, egg yolks, seafood, poultry and kidney, liver and muscle meats. Vegetables like garlic, onions, broccoli, asparagus, tomatoes and others as well as whole grains and seeds can also be good sources of selenium.

The amount of selenium in vegetables and grains depends on the selenium content in the soil in which they are grown. The selenium content is largely dependent on the content of volcanic ash in the soil on which the food was grown, with higher volcanic ash content yielding higher selenium levels.

Suggestions as to part of the reason American men are five times more likely than Japanese men to die from prostate cancer could be because, in general, the Asian diet contains four times the amount of selenium as the average American diet. Another reason for lack of selenium in the American diet is the processing that many of our foods go through before it becomes available to the public. One way to get more selenium in your diet might be to eat more organically grown foods, which some studies have shown to contain more selenium as well as higher levels of beta carotene and vitamin E.

Simply adding more selenium-rich foods, such as organically grown vegetables and fruits to your diet, along with supplements, can help reduce your risk of cancer and have mood improvements.
Try implementing a couple of Brazil nuts into your day, eating just one shelled Brazil nut, grown in the selenium-rich soil of central Brazil, provides 120 micrograms of the mineral, getting you that much closer to the daily target of 200 micrograms.

So go ahead, have some Brazil nuts during the holiday season, you deserve it.

Cancer Alternatives - Graviola

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Keith_Scott-Mumby]Keith Scott-Mumby

An exciting cancer alternative remedy comes from the seeds, leaves, bark and stem of the South American plant Annona muricata, generally known as Graviola. In fact there are many other plants in this genus, various of which yield extremely potent cytotoxic substances. These are especially effective against prostate and pancreatic cancers and work well even against lung cancer.

Much of the research on Graviola focuses on a novel set of phytochemicals called annonaceous acetogenins (annonaceous just means form Graviola plants). The potent antitumor and pesticidal properties of these annonaceous acetogenins have been reported and patented.

Purdue University has conducted a great deal of research on annonaceaous acetogenins, much of which has been funded by The National Cancer Institute and/or the National Institute of Health (none of it clinical trials, please note).

In 1997, Purdue University published information with promising news that several of the Annonaceous acetogenins: "not only are effective in killing tumors that have proven resistant to anti-cancer agents, but also seem to have a special affinity for such resistant cells."

In several interviews after this information was publicized, the head Purdue pharmacologist in Purdue's research explains that cancer cells that survive chemotherapy may develop resistance to the agent originally used against them as well as to other, even unrelated, drugs.

"The term multi-drug resistance (MDR) has been applied to this phenomenon," he says. He explains that such resistance develops in a small percentage of cancer cells when they develop a "P-glycoprotein mediated pump" capable of pushing anti-cancer agents out of the cell before they can kill it.

"A multi-drug resistant cell requires a tremendous amount of energy to run the pump and extrude things out of the cell," Purdue head pharmacolgist says. "When we mess with the energy supply, it kills the cell!"

You will hear claims that one exciting study at Purdue showed that an acetogenin in Graviola was selectively cytotoxic to colon adenocarcinoma cells in which it showed 10,000 times the potency of adriamycin (a chemotherapy drug).

What Dr. X.X. Liu and colleagues actually stated in 1999 was that: "Annoglacins A and B were selectively 1000 and 10,000 times, respectively, more potent than Adriamycin against the human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) and pancreatic carcinoma (PACA-2) cell lines in our panel of six human solid tumor cell lines."

But these were annoglacins, from a different tree altogether! (Annona glabra, a Polynesian tree called the pond or alligator apple).

There is no question, however, of the power of derivatives of the annona species. Another study showed that six acetogenins (four known and two newly discovered) exhibited significant activity in cytotoxic tests against two human hepatoma cell lines [J Nat Prod. 2002 Apr;65(4):470-5].

Another review in the Skaggs Scientific Report 1997-1998 states, "Annonaceous acetogenins, particularly those with adjacent bis-tetrahydrofuran (THF) rings, have remarkable cytotoxic, antitumor, antimalarial, immunosuppressive, pesticidal, and antifeedant activities.

Mode of action studies in three separate laboratories have shown that acetogenins are superb inhibitors of the mitochondrial electron transport systems from several tissues and organisms, including tumors. Mitochondria are the life energy machines within the cells, so screwing up that mechanisms would be expected to have disastrous effects on a cell.

The great thing is that Graviola is pretty non-toxic (unlike chemo). The dose required to kill cancer cells is way below that which will injure healthy human cells.

As an MD with over 30 years experience prescribing cancer alternative remedies (not simply herbs) I recommend Graviola for anyone battling cancer. But please remember what you get in capsules bought on the Internet may bear little relation to the strength of substances used in these trials.
